The Volunteers Must Hate the State of California

If I were the athletic directory at the University of Tennessee, I would never, ever, schedule a football game in the state of California again.

Last year, the Vols took a thumping in Berkeley, losing to California in a matchup of two top 15 teams.

This year, it was the Southern Branch's turn to upend Tennessee. Some how, some way, even after four interceptions in the first half, UCLA beat the Vols at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Phillip Fulmer, can you say hot seat?

Pete Carroll, are you scared yet?

It's early, but, at least for tonight, I guess the football monopoly in Los Angeles is over.

A few more thoughts:
  • Bruins quarterback Kevin Craft threw four interceptions in the first half. He looked like a different quarterback in the second half, as if the ghost of Troy Aikman (or maybe the ghost of Rick Neuheisel) had possessed him.
  • That UCLA defense is either really good, or the Vols offense is really bad.
  • Tennessee misses David Cutcliffe calling the plays.
  • Jonathan Crompton is no Erik Ainge.
  • Hey, The Apple Pan gets a shoutout on ESPN! And btw, it is not just a quick walk from the UCLA campus. But it is close.
  • Daniel Lincoln must hate himself right now.
  • Any takers as to when Fulmer gets the axe?
  • And finally, Tennessee is victim of hearing this chant again:
